Environmental Policy

FortisOntario Inc. and its operating subsidiaries strive to achieve environmental excellence in providing electrical power and electrical utility services to its customers. Through the implementation of its Environmental Management System, the Company maintains a high standard of environmental responsibility and performance. The following policy sets the Company’s environmental commitments.

We will:
  • Ensure that environmental factors are integrated into our planning, decision making, and business practices at all levels.

  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and other requirements to which we subscribe.

  • Implement reasonable actions to prevent pollution through proactive environmental management initiatives that promote waste reduction and resource conservation.

  • Set environmental objectives and targets to ensure that the environmental impacts and performance of our business are managed responsibly.

  • Strive to achieve continuous environmental improvement.

  • Promote efficient use of energy by customers and employees.

  • Provide all Company employees with appropriate training to ensure that their work is conducted in an environmentally responsible manner

  • Ensure contractors comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and other requirements and have the appropriate training to ensure that their work is conducted in an environmentally responsible manner.

  • Ensure that our environmental policy is available to the public, shareholders, employees, and other interested parties.

Health And Safety Policy

FortisOntario Inc. and its operating subsidiaries strive to achieve excellence in providing electrical power and electrical utility services to its customers. FortisOntario Inc. recognizes that dedication to continual improvement in its safety performance is a necessary and important part of that unrelenting commitment.

It is the Company’s policy to conduct its operations with the highest regard for the health and safety of its employees, customers, and the public in accordance with the Company’s Core Values.

In fulfilling this commitment, the Company is dedicated to providing a working environment in which employees can work safely. We will meet or exceed all applicable health and safety legislation and accepted industry standards. The Company will make every reasonable effort to eliminate or control workplace hazards and minimize risks that have the potential to threaten health and safety.

The Company will ensure that it has an effective occupational health and safety management system and will conduct audits and measurements of its safety system in order to make continual improvements in safety performance. The Company will recognize those efforts and activities that achieve safety excellence.

Health and safety are the responsibility of employees at all levels. Employees in positions of leadership must understand and accept their distinct responsibility for health and safety and will be held accountable for safety performance. They must communicate safety and lead by example. All employees must follow the Company’s health and safety rules and policies, maintain a positive safety attitude, and promote safe work practices to prevent accidents involving themselves or others.

All contractors must follow the Company’s health and safety rules and policies.

The Company will make this policy available to the public.
