Why is my spring electric bill higher?
- Your spring bill actually covers a portion of the winter period.
- Houseguests and students home for the holidays means more electricity is used.
- Even though you may be on vacation, your refrigerator/freezer is still working and using electricity. It may even work harder if it's nearly empty.
- Special cleaning, and the extra washing, drying and ironing to prepare for and when returning from a vacation means more electricity used.

Why is my neighbour's electric bill lower?
- The size of their family and how they use electricity can vary from yours.
- Their thermostat may be set lower, or they may be using a programmable thermostat.
- They may have fewer or smaller appliances.
- They may be using energy-efficient tools: energy efficient windows, upgraded insulation, weather-stripping, and caulking.

- Unplug any sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers, stereos and TVs.
- Open your refrigerator/freezer as little as possible to retain the temperature.
